Social Activities include the Hello Tournament and the Club Championships Parties. Activities also include low cost weekend trips, mostly to tennis resorts within a two hour drive. However, trips have also ranged as far afield as Hawaii, where Club members went to a Luau and met – no kidding – the King of Hawaii. Trips also include “happy hour” socials, group dinners, tournaments, as well as ad hoc play-until-you-drop games. Most resorts feature swimming pools, jacuzzis, professional massage, and other amenities
Open Play
This is the SMTC tradition of providing doubles tennis for club members in a friendly and competitive atmosphere. All you have to do is show up at Christine Emerson Reed Park, Wilshire Blvd. at Lincoln Blvd. between 9 am and 2 pm. We have a few courts available, each of which has a sign up sheet, and you sign up to play with either a partner or alone and a partner is provided. You work it out amongst yourselves who partners with whom in that case. It is not limited to mixed doubles, it is intended to be ‘open’ to any possibility. Also, court #1 is the challenge court, which means that a winning team automatically keeps the court for one more match with the next team in line. This court requires you to sign up with a partner.
We have many ‘old timers’ present at each Sunday Morning Open Play who can fill you in on any other rules.
Action Ball
We offer 3 sessions of Action Ball (or Live Ball) every Sunday. More information on Live Ball. Members pay only $20 to play in (non club members pay more). The sessions last 90 minutes and the sign up is done through Ray Hugill, our club pro and ball feeder. We also provide Friday Night Action Ball
